So, what is a Preset?
A preset is essentially a filter applied to a RAW image to accessorize and enhance the overall look, feel, vibe and/or colours of the finished edit. They are often created by professional Photographers from around the world and sold in bundles to other Photographers to streamline their work, and give consistency and definition to their galleries. Presets are a great way to save time without spending hours editing images individually because you can apply a Preset to all the images in that gallery so all the settings are the same, and can be adjusted or tweaked to suit the desired look.
There are a lot of incredibly talented Adelaide Maternity and Newborn Photographer's who follow the trend of using Presets when editing their images. I can certainly see the value and benefits behind this process, especially when batch editing large galleries frequently for their clients while working to strict timeframes in delivering those galleries. I don't believe there is a right or wrong way to edit, it is just personal preference.
My work flow
As I work a 9-5pm job in Medical Admin 4x days a week as well as being a busy mum of a 4 year old I find I can only take on so much work within my Adelaide Photography business. Therefore the time I allocate for sessions as well as editing is limited, however it means I can simply work on 1-2 client galleries at any given time. I am a perfectionist, and I like to be in control of the overall finished look of the galleries I create. I believe every client and every session is unique, each session will be shot in a slightly different light to the last even at the same location and therefore I prefer to edit each image individually. I find this way of editing does take more time, however it is unique to reflect me and my own style.
With the way I work, my love, and creative flair is able to be applied to each image and gallery. I like to take my time, focus on every detail and perfect it.
When looking at how to edit an image l look at the overall exposure and will usually adjust this to brighten the image. My editing style is clean, bright and true to nature. Next I look at highlights, temperature, shadows and if any of the colours need dulling down or brightening up. I may need to use AI to remove random objects that may not sit well in the frame such as a bin in the background, a stray flyaway hair or dog/person in the backdrop. I have been known to crop and adjust an image if the horizon or image itself is not straight.
I have very strong attention to detail and strive to deliver the most beautiful results to my clients. I like to think of my work as art that is unique, not just an image taken on a camera rather something you are proud to display in your home and cherish for a lifetime. Every time you walk past it you stop and hold on to that moment and the way you felt so incredibly beautiful that day creating these perfect memories.
I hope this helps to answer any questions you may have around the work I create and gives you a good idea of what you can expect in your gallery from Schinella Photography.
I look forward to hearing from you and working with you.
