Location
Select an Adelaide location that fits your vibe. Choose somewhere you feel comfortable and feel connected to, this may be a place you go for peace and quiet, or it may be where you got married or even just somewhere close to your home that feels familiar.
When I did my Maternity Photoshoot I did mine at the beach because this is where I have always felt connected to, so it was never a question, I was already having visions of how I wanted it even before I fell pregnant with my son.
If you're really not sure check with your Maternity Photographer as we usually have some amazing suggestions and know all the best spots in Adelaide.
Styling
Plan your wardrobe around your growing baby bump. Look at fabrics with stretch and movement, such as cotton, elastane, linen or chiffon. Select a colour that feels natural and compliments your skin tone and features. If you don’t usually wear tight clothing don’t choose anything tight, if you rarely wear loose clothing don’t wear loose clothing, if you are not confident showing skin then don’t. Select something that feels comfortable to you and potentially compliments the location you have chosen. If you are struggling to find something suitable I can recommend an amazing local Adelaide maternity dress hire business with so many gorgeous and luxurious options to make you feel like the queen that your are!
Preparation
Do your research, make sure you have chosen the right Adelaide Maternity Photographer for you. Obviously look at examples of their work and checkout their website or social media accounts, does it resonate with you and the story you want to tell in your photos. You can search on Google (Adelaide Maternity Photographer), Instagram, Facebook, Pinterest or simply word of mouth, ask people you know for recommendations. There will likely be a feeling of trust and confidence with someone who has been personally recommended to you. Look at their Reviews not just their work. Do they have a good history of experience, are they real people in the images living an everyday life as opposed to a gorgeous fit looking model hired for a staged/styled shoot designed to be displayed on their socials. Have a conversation with the Photographer, are they nice, do they give off relaxed vibes or are they a bit uptight. Have they experienced pregnancy before, I find this to be important as they are more than likely going to be relatable and patient. Find someone you can feel comfortable being vulnerable with. As a 37 year old woman who has experienced all the ups and downs of a difficult fertility journey, multiple pregnancy losses and a challenging successful pregnancy I absolutely do understand what this whole journey to Motherhood is really like, and I can offer support, encouragement and understanding to my clients.
Give yourself enough time, plan your photoshoot well in advance, ideally book your session as early as possible so as not to miss out with your favourite Maternity Photographer.
Gather styling ideas or do a Pinterest board, brainstorm with your Photographer ask them if they have a Style Guide or client wardrobe.
I hope this helps in preparing you to feel more confident and comfortable during your Maternity Photoshoot.
Feel free to reach out with any questions here, as a Maternity Photographer I am always happy to listen, offer lived advice and accommodate my clients in any way I can.
I look forward to capturing your everlasting memories.
